I have watched the entire debate again. Mostly as I think the outcome of the election may have substantial impact on where I live, in the UK and globally. I would have liked to hear far more on the environment, how to re-focus wealth and job creation across the world, more about diversity and equality and more on how to resolve conflicts, especially in Syria and Yemen. The human toll in those areas is immense, and I'm ashamed to say the UK is making large sums trading weapons seemingly used in Yemen. So in no way I am singling out America. It needs global attention.
On the debate, Trump seemed far more rehearsed and organized. He seems to have some problem sniffing, I am not going to get in to why, but after focusing on Hillary Clinton's health, his own seems something of a distraction. He was again, irritated and interruptive, he seems unaware that this comes across negatively to neutrals. He stood behind Clinton when she was answering questions in a very threatening manner. He should have been warned against that in his preparations. If it was unintended it looked bad, if it was intentional ?
He used less high hand aggressive gestures and tackled Clinton on some weak spots. She wavered at times and looked uneasy and nervous, with her 'fixed' smile. She stuck very much to the issues, and did not make such a big play about some of Trump's recent issues. It may have come across Presidential, but in a brutal struggle for power ? It may have been a chance missed. On a personal note, I think it was the right thing. Conduct in any election is not just about who wins one vote, in one election. It's about setting a standard for all of them, in my view.
Clintons body language was rehearsed and contained. She was disciplined through out, but seems a little straightended now, like she knows she's ahead and it's hers to lose. I thought Trump seemed more pleased than last time, but knows he did not land a knockout and is behind now. Again there was an air of defeat or resignation behind him. The arguing with officials we see in sports all the time, when a team or player is losing. It may seem a small detail, but details matter. Clinton recalled every one by name as she spoke, I don't think Trump did this once. If people feel ignored or marginalized it does not bode well.
Personally ? I think across the board, republicans are angry. They think this should be a tight race, and after two terms of the democrats, they should be better placed. With a more composed candidate, I think they would have been.
