Corona / Wuhan virus

Everything is being canceled in the US now. EVERYTHING.

This is all just mass hysteria

The reproduction rate of the virus isn't even at smallpox levels!

Not only that but influenza has a higher mortality rate!

Everybody calm the fuck down, for real. Read about Mass hysteria of the avian flu and swine flu and h1n1...

It's all the same thing

Not quite, those viruses had more obvious symptoms and could be contained. This viruses is invisible for many of the population so I can spread further and faster.

It is a bit worse than your average epidemic.

Is world ending? No. But the fact Nations are closing borders with each other its going to have MAJOR economic impacts that will affect day to day life.

This is going to be worse than avian flu and swine flu.

China and Italy don't shutdown entire cities and regions for something that isn't actually serious. China maybe. Italy... Expect to see similiar things occuring in other European countries in the near future.

This was a bit down played at the beginning and has been able to escalate because China didn't act fast enough when it first occured.

It is serious.

It attacks the lungs then causes multiple organ failure but if we look at the bigger picture, I sense the bubonic plague had to have been more serious if it were here nowadays and it was new and we didn't know how to handle it. I mean this in the speed of spread, the signs and symptoms, etc. Cholera must have had an equalliy scary thing.

It is a general rule, it seems, in medicine that the immunocompromised are always hurt first. This is logical.

What's making corona more lethal these days is because we don't know much about it but if we observe its its patterns, I'm willing to bet tubercolosis is more dangerous. That we were able to contain more deadly diseases before corona should be a strain of hope. Until our brainy humans make that happen, we are better off calm.

I'm growing more convinced that this is an economic rebalancing strategy more than an actual pandemic.

Now you sound like an anti vaxxer. The type who throws chicken pox parties for their kids.

Nah. Let's just slow the spread and TRY to prevent as much death as we can. If you get it and it's no big deal great for you. Still, quarantine yo ass.

I didn't say it quite this way in my blog last week, but I did mention that a pandemic could benefit certain people, economically.

There is somehting to be said for hearrd immunity. Get all people who are healthy to contract it, quaranetine ourselves for 2 weeks, survive it and then it burns out, protecting the weak and old.

Of course, humanity could never coordinate on such a scale...

And people have been predict a massive shift for wealth or a few years now. That will potentially occur early for some people. Not to be mobid, but its a fact.

People are going to contract this. There's no need to try. Children seem to handle it better at least.

Yes, the main silver lining. Its bad enough that the immunocomprimised and old are suffering but if it killed chilren it would wipe out a chunk of an entire generation.

The demographics are too skewed towards the old already this would be catastrophic in years to come. Even just for economic purposes there needs to be more young than old to keep a country moving.

Yes. This is why the sinister evil in me is growing more convinced that this is an economic tactic. Whether inadvertent or not, it clearly is an economic consideration. It will redistribute wealth, yes.

I wouldn't go international though. Can't back into the US for a few days... Expect other countries to do similiar.
Really though, anyone attending those parks during all this is asking for trouble.
I was looking at $39 airfare to Orlando. Someone needs to go check on the house and my uncle. I happen to have an AP in my pocket.

We're stocked up here and don't plan on leaving the house for weeks. It's going to suck. I may say I'm a recluse but I've never not left the house for weeks. At least it's getting warmer and we can go for walks. It's going to be even rougher for my kid to stay home. But he can play in the yard, which I think will help. I think being active during this will be very important. I'm remembering seeing footage of people in Chinese hospitals doing daily exercises and dancing. Have to keep moving even if you get sick. I bought a ton of frozen veggies and meats and then fresh produce this week. We've been stocking up on non perishables for weeks. Have to eat well, too, especially in the event that you get sick. I'm actually pretty nervous about this. It seems like the US is finally starting to panic. But we have been preparing for awhile now. My friends are saying store shelves were bare yesterday. It feels like a nightmare and I hope it's an overreaction and we can look back in a few years and shrug it off like we did with Ebola. Some senators here are self quarantining for having contact with infected. It's also really concerning. I'm not happy with this government but I certainly don't want any of them to die and if a large section of them do, I don't want to fathom who will rise up in their place. Because we have a lot of armed and organized whackos here. Writing this sounds really over the top and paranoid and I hope it proves to be just paranoia.

I hope everything will be fine too and all of this is over soon. I think it's normal to feel a bit paranoid in this situation. We all can do what we can do; stay at home if possible, wash hands a lot, not going near sick people etc. It's all what we can do as individuals.

Shelves are empty here in Finland too. Toilet paper especially. :D
