I was good at French at my first secondary school, then I changed schools and picked up Spanish quite well. It only really came alive when I went to Spain. Where I think I did best was in picking up the intonation and accent very well. I also enjoyed learning new vocab and phrases. Grammar was more of a challenge but despite that I still think I have an attitude for languages.
I loved learning Spanish and the way that talking another language helps you think in different ways, and experience another world view. I lived in a Spain for a short while and loved every minute of it and all the differentness of that culture. I think you get to tipping point when you start thinking in the other language. You definitely loose it if you don't use it with languages... but I think it remains there somewhere in the memory bank, I want to get back to that level of comprehension and speaking, and exceed it at some point. I definitely miss this.
