Ted Lasso: Believe!!!!!!!

Haven't really read this thread so as not to spoil things
But I did finally watch a few episodes of the first season
I'm not a fan of Jason Sudeikis so I pretty much just ignored this show
Something about his vibe just doesn't gel with me
But I will say, he is totally transformed in this show and I actually love his character
I always love optimistic positive characters like this
It's like if you put Monkey D. Luffy as a soccer coach

idk if I'll end up watching all of it, it's a pretty good show though, I get it

Also forgot to mention that the writing is excellent, clever and hilarious
Definitely one of its greatest aspects

I know exactly what you mean. Lucky for me, I wasn't overly familiar with him before Ted Lasso. I'd seen him in things, but didn't make the connection. Now, whenever I see him when he isn't Ted, I think, "Nope!"

The show keeps getting better and better.

Annnnnnd we're BACK!!!!

The second episode was much more like the old Ted Lasso fans love and miss. Witty, clever, endearing, and full of hidden hints, jokes, call-backs, and clues. It was a great episode overall and most of the characters gave Seasons1-3 vibes as if we never left.

Spoiler: Thoughts

Roy and Keeley -- The tension between them is perfect. Stay tuned for a long season of teasing the audience.
Roy -- His psychological warfare in the away team lockeroom was so Roy.
Beard -- Stole the show.
Alice -- I don't love her. The humorless woman is a tired joke, and she reads like that inaccurate TV autism stereotype. Fans are already labeling her 'autistic.' (I expect Ted to have a breakthrough with her.) Honestly, Keeley is just as likely to be neurodivergent (ADHD, AuDHD) as Alice is. Jade, too. This is going to keep bugging me.
Boots -- Unhinged. She's entertaining.
Twins -- We'll see where the fighting sisters joke goes.
Can't wait for Dani Rojas' sister to show up!!!!!!!!

Spoiler: S4E3 Thoughts

I don't know.... I thought the last episode (S4E2) meant we were back in action, but this one left me wondering. In S1-3 I loved almost every episode. I'm not a fan of Edwin Akufo or Jack and Shandy, but those episodes always had other parts that hit it out of the park.

--Rebecca is messing up her relationship with Matthijs. She's showing that she doesn't prioritize him. I'm going to be pissed if she messes this up. This dynamic seems to forget core lessons from 1-3 about how people are more important than wins and how we need to nurture healthy relationships.
-- I'm sooooo disappointed about Dani Rojas' sister not being on the team. Featuring her in the trailer was a weird bait and switch.
-- IMO, so far, we're not seeing the classic Lasso writing magic from most of the teammates. Boots is the only one who captures that magic so far.
-- Roy pursuing Keeley is funny and charming. Fuuuuuuck.
-- Didn't like the whole "Roy's career is up in the air" subplot. Booo.
-- Love Mae and Phoebe rooting for the women. Two ends of the spectrum.
-- Liked the misogynistic approach the shareholders took and how that drives the plot.
-- The convo with Henry about generational wealth and etc was great.
-- They haven't introduced Roy's new assistant coach yet. (I have my suspicions about who it may be.)

Anyone criticizing S4 in the fan zones is being fed to the wolves right now, including actual footballers. One of the footballers pointed out that this team is full of fuck ups who would never be allowed to behave this way professionally. (I agree with her, and I find some of the antics annoying, too.)

In the show's defense, I think they're exaggerating the situation for effect. This team seems inspired by movies like The Bad News Bears, Major League, Stripes, Slap Shot, and A League Of Their Own.

Rocky, Karate Kid, Revenge of the Nerds, Cool Runnings, Rudy, Hidden Figures, The Longest Yard, Miracle (on Ice), Cinderella Man, Billy Elliot, Goonies, Slumdog Millionaire... The list of underdog films goes on and on.

The Susan Boyle reference fit, too. She was an underdog nobody expected to shine.

Americans LOVE underdog stories. We see ourselves as the underdogs for some reason, even though nothing could be further from the truth on a global scale. We especially love underdog sports stories. Sports are so dear to people's hearts, and people have secret dreams of going pro even if they know it's unrealistic, so maybe underdog stories let them live that fantasy a little.

My kind of underdog stories are Basquiat and Pollock.
