Aside from sugar, and lens polarizers, another substance with optical chirality is methamphetamine hydrochloride.
Dextromethamphetamine, the psychostimulant, is often called crystal, because in pure form, it’s refractive index approaches zero, and so appears clear, like glass. Impurity is immediately revealed as deviation from the transparent, the crystal blue persuasion of Breaking Bad notwithstanding.
Levomethamphetamine, the chiral mirror of crystal meth, is not psychoactive, and you might know it as the Vicks decongestant inhaler which came in a lipstick-sized tube. All the vasoconstriction, none of the catecholamine-based clinical effects.
I’ve never seen a synthesis of the pure levo isomer, so I have no idea what it looks like.
