Generally I think it is music that we can relate to, which we feel closeness to. Like they speak to us! :)

Music speaks directly to my heart when it is Spanish Flamenco and I am listening to it in the back yard during the summer time under the stars. Sigh. The Brodsky Quartet speaks to my heart when I am driving through the snow down a country road and the trees are leaning from across the road, gnarling into each other, forming a canopy.

I got so hooked on blink 182 in my teenage years, it was like they were singing about my life sometimes and the melodies just hit my heart.
