Corona / Wuhan virus

We're supposed to prep for eight weeks of supplies. I think we have this at our home, plus enough to share a bit with unprepared neighbors and the elderly. (As I've said several times, my SO is a "Doomsday prepper".)

To those of you who believe filling your pantry is not needed, you may be right. Yesterday I messaged with friends from Italy and one said there is not a shortage of groceries. However, he said it is difficult to get those groceries. He said they have to go out alone, not in pairs or groups (I'm not sure if this is different for children who cannot be left home alone) and that only a few people are allowed into the grocery store at a time. The wait to buy groceries is two hours long. This was confirmed by another Italian. He said the wait for groceries is hours long because in his area only two people are allowed into the grocery store at one time. So, the US may be the same, but prepare for a long wait to get supplies.

I will be going out today for a bit of a stock up. . Planning to self isolate for a couple of weeks just due to age. .just seems prudent. All church activities are cancelled for the next few weeks, so I
ll be doing some music at home for online worship. .
found this and think it fits:

Glad you both are prepared!
Yes, they were talking on the news about how there is still a steady supply-chain of goods coming into the stores here too, it's just people buying up large amounts of them and emptying the shelves.
I know in some larger cities they've had long lines to get into some of the grocery stores...so far it's been the opposite where I live (which is a fairly small town outside a larger one), it's been dead empty, or just normal amounts of people when I've gone in.
But yes, the shelves are low on toilet paper (lol), pasta, rice, and cough and cold medicine stuffs.
Once folks have their pantry full, unless the supply-chain is interrupted, there is no reason there shouldn't be goods continuing to come in - at least here in the US where I am.
I also find people buying up bottled water a bit strange...it's good to have some on hand for emergencies, but this is not the type of emergency that is going to shut down water services like an earthquake or something.
There is a huge lack of competent and correct information here in this country.
The messaging being sent out from the White House is so wishy-washy I'm not surprised.
Still waiting for these millions of tests to magically appear, lol.

I was wondering if places would restrict quantity and amount of people in store. One grocery store out here sent something out that they will be stocked but will limit purchases. I plan on using instacart and then just picking it up or having it delivered if still available.

Yes, many are limiting certain products to a certain number per person or shopping trip.
Mostly things like hand sanitizer, TP, etc.
Still plenty of hand soap - which is far superior to hand sanitizer, so whatever, lol.
We have delivery services too, and most stores you can order online and then they bring it out to your car (for a fee).
But then, you have someone you don't know handling all your stuff, so I dunno which is better honestly.
Hope it all goes smoothly for you!

I really feel for countries that are struggling with this right now. I also feel for countries that are surrounded on all sides where it makes traveling from one place to another so convenient and easy. I am very thankful to live in Canada where our biggest threat is the USA, though sometimes I wonder whether or not they'll fuck this all up for all of us anyway.
We had a communication go out at work afterhours on Friday that has asked as many of us to work from home until March 27th. Just the day before they were telling us to watch a TED Talk on emotions and try to discern between "passion" that was reasonable and "passion" that was unreasonable. It was the dumbest presentation I've seen but companies want to keep up appearances, especially those that have multiple plants and produce specific goods for import/export globally.
We have stocked up on things that we normally eat but had done so before the panic started to really spread (when they shut down schools a few days ago). We didn't buy extra toilet paper because fortunately most of the toilet paper we use is made in Canada anyway so I don't know why people are being so fucking stupid about that. How many shits do people really have to take?

We're trying our best to fuck it up it seems!

It's here.
8 miles away We have 1 confirmed case with 3 others pending, and an 82 year old lady with lung disease passed away Wednesday night. She was diagnosed through lung scan. Seems our local hospital and quick-call med center is being proactive through lung scans while not relying solely on the tests and wait time. If a person's scan looks omniously like the scans of a person with COVID-19 they are quarantined immediately. I'm grateful to our frontline folks for taking initiative.

Ours and surrounding counties are on lockdown until a reassessment on April 12th. All grade schools and Universities are closed. I live 13 miles from Cornell University and they have suspended all classes until further notice, sending everyone to their homes and home countries. The cleaning staffs will be the only ones to report. Even the public library has closed for cleaning.

In my small town all public events have been cancelled until May when they will reassess. The town officials have declared no gatherings of any type, with church services being suspended. Our Legion is ground zero for the Community Response location. The officers are implementing our emergency plans to take care of those in need of services. The community resource center and food bank are serving from the parking lot as the stores of items are packed in tight. (No tissue shortage here ;))

One of the most grateful things I can name is being a member of such a fine small town community. Petty grievances aside, we look out for all during times of crisis. People tend to scoff at 'country lifers', yet when times get tough we always find a way to get through. It's hope that will get us all through the worst of it.

Humor seems to be good medicine for calming nerves and the affects of FOLO. I'm no exception. :p

Jesus Christ.

Stop freaking out!

You don't need to prepare for a month shutdown. Frankly, I'd rather die. So if the EXTREMELY UNLIKELY scenario happens where prepping was required and I didn't do it, I'll just starve to death. I'm fine with that.

I expect stores around my area to start pushing online order and pickup. Even drop the fee for deliveries. It makes sense to keep everyone out of the stores.

Day 1 of however-long-self-isolation-in-these-crazy-times and I can't sleep so I'm up drinking wine by myself and binge watching Love Is Blind on Netflix. Holy shit this is so cringey and against everything I believe in but I Cannot. Stop. Watching.

People keep saying this is an addictive show they can't step away from even though they normally hate that sort of thing. One of my guy friends walked by while his wife was watching it and got sucked in.

@Skarekrow – Yeah, I was just saying stuff may be available, but be prepared for a long wait if the US has the same rules as Italy.

It's a good idea, and @acd's idea to use Instacart is good, too. We don't have that anywhere near where I live because the towns are so small. (Haha. It's cute, actually.) But we're all set. I'm just going to make a meal in the Instapot and make another when we've finished it.

I always want to buy cute barrettes and hair ties and never do because it seems frivolous. Now I'm keenly aware of how often I swipe my hair away from my face and how I need to amend that.
Also, this is me when told not to touch my face:

I heard that hospitals are having trouble with staffing as many employees are needing to stay home with their kids as school is cancelled for up to 4 weeks. This added to the potential influx of patients makes it harder to manage that flattened curve the CDC was hoping for. They may have the beds, but won't have the staff.

Mass hysteria and fear mongering. Stop poisoning yourself with this propaganda. Turn all of your media off.
Agreed. Don't give those who promote panic a second of your time.
just returned from the local Krogers. . holy fuck. . toilet paper is the least of your can't get it items. . the apocalypse has fully arrived, they were out of spam. .
Yup. Thankfully the produce section was well stocked, although the citrus was hit hard.
