Trump will win again

I don't get the pseudo moral grandstanding in US politics.

If someone has committed a crime, the courts can administer punishment. Until the courts punish, and even after punishment has been served, if someone can do a job, he should be able to do it.

Applying this to the question of hegseth, even if he had been incarcerated for 15 years for rape, he should be able to now serve as secretary of defence.

For government jobs, the only consideration which matters is the person's ability to successfully implement the policies of the elected leaders.

All I can say is I hope shutting down the economy to save grandmas was worth the economic downturn that has resulted and the global rise in right wing populism . 😬

So grandmas are safe and we got common sense back? Win-win, what's the problem?

England is next, by the way:

This term "populism" always fascinated me. Like, what is the difference between populism and democracy? Seems to me to be pretty much the same: rule of the majority for the majority. As opposed to what we have now.

I realize more and more that as long as we live, there'll always be friends vs enemies. After we in the West defeated the enemy (Nazism and Communism), we though the history ended and we will have no enemies anymore, so we started to search for enemies within; successful men, millionaires, "homophobes", traditional values, nationalism, religion etc.

This was always stupid and nothing but a phase. Now we are just returning to normality.

Democracy is governance, populism is rhetoric

Trump was elected based on promises like all politicians, and I think he'll deliver on some but not on others. There are other constraints. His style is definitely more bombastic then we were used to but I don't think that's why he ultimately won.

Give me a bombastic populist anytime over unelected shadowy politicians/institutions that we have in Europe. At least with Trump you know what he's up to and what he promised to deliver.

I doubt anyone in England and Germany wanted their countries to become refugee paradise but that's what happened and there's pretty much nothing the people can do to stop it. Like they voted for the "conservatives", they voted for Brexit, and things got worse and worse.

Pelosi seems to be taking it on the chin for the Democrat's failure this election cycle, but is it really her failure or is she a patsy for leadership in the DNC?

- Bernie Sanders blames Democrat leadership for the abandonment of the working class.
- Pelosi blames Biden for not stepping down sooner.
- It has been said that Pelosi was the driving factor for Harris being the candidate. That she went around the democratic process when she said, "I don't care if people picked you, I'm going to pick someone else."
- She has stepped down as party leader - I'm fairly certain she didn't have a choice.
- She's also being tied to United Healthcare insider trading and ties to the Luigi Mangione family. Now, this may be misinformation, but it is coming at a time when House committees are in full discussions about US politicians using information [that the public does not have access] to gain millions in profits. I do not see coincidence.

The media also appears to be jumping ship while they publish very unfavorable images of Pelosi. This is all happening while Trump is being elevated to Person of the Year by Time magazine.

I get the feeling that Pelosi is being thrown under the bus, not for her inability, but for her ability to best take the blame of the failure. I don't believe that Pelosi is innocent, as there is good reason to believe she has been corrupt in her financial dealings, but I do think she is being conveniently targeted as a sacrifice to save the skin by many of those with whom she has aligned.

Politicians are such Machiavellian lions and vultures.

If she is the patsy, and the party and media have abandoned her, then it seems as if she will be completely vulnerable to the full force of the federal government starting in January. She will be first on, "the list." The Trump train is going to run over her, back up, and then again. It will not be pleasant.

Of course, this is the perception I am seeing from the outside. Again, I do not trust any politician. A scorpion is a scorpion by it's nature.

I honestly thought Nancy pelosi had died I didn't realize she was alive until I saw this post. I'm not sure what caused me to think she was dead but I literally had to Google when she died and apparently nope she's alive

Term limits really should be imposed. The temptation for corruption and greed starts to grow exponentially. It becomes exceedingly obvious when we look at communist governments.

20 years seems long enough to me because that’s plenty of time to bring about change. It’s also fairly consistent with the span of a generation. IMO.
